MTB Bike Rental - Trek Marlin 5 Gen 3
Looking for a mountain bike to ride in and around Da Nang? The Trek Marlin 5 Gen 3 is the bike most of our customers choose — and for good reason. It's a proper mountain bike with hydraulic brakes, a 1×9 Shimano drivetrain, and sizes from S to XL. Available for daily or weekly rental at our Da Nang shop.
Overview
Trek Marlin 5 Gen 3 — Da Nang's Most Rented Mountain Bike
The Trek Marlin 5 Gen 3 is the bike we recommend most often for visitors who want to ride Da Nang properly. It's a proper mountain bike — not a city bike with thick tyres — and it's available at our Da Nang bike rental shop for a fraction of what you'd expect to pay.
The Gen 3 gets Trek's updated trail geometry, a simplified 1×9 Shimano CUES drivetrain (no dropped chains, no front derailleur hassle), and hydraulic disc brakes. Whether you're tackling Son Tra Peninsula, grinding up Hai Van Pass, or just cruising the coast road to Hoi An, this bike won't quit on you.
Why riders choose it: newest fleet | 1×9 Shimano CUES (no dropped chains) | hydraulic disc brakes | 29″ wheels | sizes S–XL | available at our Da Nang shop.
The Trek Marlin 5 Gen 3 vs. Da Nang's Terrain
Da Nang's cycling terrain is deceptively varied. You can go from flat beachfront to steep mountain switchbacks in under 20 minutes. Here's why the Gen 3 is built for exactly that:
1×9 Drivetrain — Simpler and Tougher
Old mountain bikes had two or three chainrings up front and a front derailleur that jammed at the worst moments. The Gen 3's 1×9 setup has one shifter and no front derailleur. It's lighter, cleaner, and almost impossible to drop your chain on. The 11–46T cassette gives you a granny gear low enough to spin up Son Tra's steepest sections without standing.
Trail Geometry — Stable on the Descents
Trek slackened the head angle on the Gen 3, which in practical terms means the front wheel is slightly further ahead. On the descent from Hai Van Pass, that translates to genuine stability at speed — not white-knuckle gripping the bars and hoping for the best.
Hydraulic Disc Brakes — Because Tropical Rains Happen
Mechanical disc brakes use cables, which stretch when wet. Hydraulic brakes use fluid, and they don't care if it's raining. We spec hydraulic on every bike in the fleet for one reason: your safety on the way down matters more than anything else.
Best Routes from Our Da Nang Bike Rental Shop
When you rent a Trek Marlin 5 from us, you're not just getting a bike — you're getting local knowledge. Here are the routes our own team rides:
-
🏔️ Hai Van Pass
Top Gear famously called this one of the best coastal roads in the world. It's a 20 km climb — rewarding, not easy — and the Gen 3's lockout suspension stiffens the fork for efficient climbing on the asphalt, then opens up on the rougher descent. -
🐒 Son Tra Peninsula (Monkey Mountain)
Breathtaking views, genuinely steep climbs, and the chance to see red-shanked douc langurs. The Gen 3's lightweight aluminium frame and wide-range cassette make the climbs manageable for riders of mixed fitness. -
🌾 Da Nang to Hoi An (Coastal & Countryside)
About 25 km each way on quiet roads, mostly flat. Perfect for a full-day cruise — stop at the Marble Mountains on the way out, grab lunch in Hoi An, and ride back along the coast before dark.
